Designers and creative types can quite literally be inspired by anything. I’ve just discovered Elyse Graham’s Geodes, which are a source of endless colour inspiration.

In case you haven’t yet noticed, fluorescents did not stay in the ‘80s; they have returned. Like all good design, they have been re-invented and are stunning when paired with pastels, which help to tone down the vibrancy into something much more livable.

How great would this be as a “night light?”
Elyse’s Geodes are synthetic versions of natural crystals. She explains:
“I build my geodes around the void created by my exhaled breath. When each piece is finished, there is no evidence of what may lay beneath its surface. As I create the piece one layer at a time, each time covering up the layer that preceded it, I have no idea what will reveal itself once the geode is split open.”
The colour variations and depth of texture seem endless.
Good design is built on the same principle – spaces that are layered and built in a more organic way have a much different feel than those which are full of matched furniture sets; they feel alive!
