When not working on design projects, I teach (and practice) yoga. During yesterday’s practice, the idea of returning to our childhood mind was broached. That is exactly what Christina Sicoli, an industrial design student, did when creating Asterisk, a stool that is also a puzzle.

Play together. Learn together. Grow together.
The Asterisk puzzle stool is an interactive learning experience for children.

When assembled, the seventeen (17) interlocking pieces resemble an asterisk. The construction is such that the pieces fit into the base by matching corresponding shapes and/or colours, just like a puzzle.

Each different shape of the asterisk corresponds using colour to a notch on the stool base. Parents are encouraged to teach their children about colour as well as construction.
Constructed from Baltic birch plywood, the grain detail is both simple and beautiful.

Asterisk can be used as a stool, but would also make a great side table. It can stand alone in any environment, or be taken apart and stored away.
Go ahead…be playful!
