The Mixtape Table

A retro-inspired piece for those who remember the cassette tape, the Mixtape Table was designed by Jeff Skierka Designs (JSD).  The prototype table is an exact 12:1 scale replica of a cassette and is reversible, featuring both an A and a B side.

The one-of-a-kind prototype Mixtape Table.

Currently, the one-of-a-kind piece is made of reclaimed maple, walnut, and lucite.  JSD expects future versions to be machined from a variety of high-grade plywoods and glass.

Thanks to its lucite base, the table appears to float.

I love the look of the table and can think of at least one application where I would love to incorporate into a future project.  My only request to JSD… please keep the reclaimed wood and lucite!

The “inner working” details of the Mixtape Table truly capture the essence of the old cassette.

Very unique! It’s an “era” that is becoming extinct. Saw a cassette player in Walmart the other day and it looked so strange….especially in the midst of all the ipods, iphones, bluetooths, etc.

A beautiful piece by Jeff Skierka Designs. The cassette tape details are carved out in perfect geometrics. Using reclaimed maple, walnut and lucite, they sync together in a muted harmony of colour tones. The glass top and legs gives it both the functionality of a table and brings back the basic elemental feel of a plastic cassette tape.

That’s awesome. My iPhone cover looks exactly like an old cassette, too, and I get a ton of compliments and offers to buy it. Although it’s a little sad that cassettes are considered “retro”…

  72. whatevertheyaint May 31, 2012 at 12:21 Reply

This brings back some kind of memories. I agree w/the commenter who mentioned seeing the cassette player in a store amongst all the techno gadgets. I thought the same thing the other day when I saw one: Wow, has it really been that long since anyone used one of these? Same w/telephones, although I still have mine and plan to keep it until it becomes extinct. Nice piece of artwork; wouldn’t mind displaying this in a room at home.

  73. Kristy May 31, 2012 at 12:29 Reply

I agree, this is nostalgic. I used to record from Casey Kasem’s Top 40 then re-cut into mixed tapes (I was in my early teens and had no money to buy music). Very cool, now how about a diamond disc?

  74. libs012 May 31, 2012 at 12:40 Reply
